24th anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces celebrated in Tbilisi

On January 27, 2016 a range of events were organized in Tbilisi to mark the 24th anniversary of formation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.

First, the staff of the Embassy headed by Ambassador Yuri Vardanyan together with hierarchs and clergy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, accompanied by Armenian community in Tbilisi, paid a tribute to the memory of famous generals of Armenian descent Mikhail Loris-Melikov, Ivan Lazarev, Boris Shelkovnikov, Arzas Ter-Ghukasov who are buried in the churchyard of the Cathedral of Saint George of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

On the evening of the same day, in the restaurant “Sami Saukune” a festive reception was held to mark the 24th anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces which was attended by over 150 guests, including Deputy Ministers of Defence of Georgia Davit Ebralidze and Anna Dolidze, Chief of the Georgian Armed Forces General Staff , Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze, First Deputy Chief of General Staff of GAF, Colonel Omar Begoidze, heads of departments and services of Ministry of Defence and the General Staff, diplomats and representatives of military diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, namely military attachés of the USA, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, China, Kazakhstan, Greece, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Georgian military experts and representatives of media, as well as members of community structures, the clergy and other guests.

At the beginning of the event children's choir of ''Hayartun'' Cultural Centre of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia performed national anthems of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia. Defence Attaché of the Republic of Armenia, Colonel Samvel Ramazyan congratulated those present on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of formation of the Armenian Armed Forces, presenting a brief history of the revival of RA Armed Forces and episodes of centuries-long Armenian-Georgian military alliance.

Chief of the Georgian Armed Forces General Staff, Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze came up with a speech in a spirit of bilateral military cooperation and extended his congratulations on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of formation of the Armenian Armed Forces.

It was especially mentioned that, even in Afghanistan Armenian and Georgian soldiers carry out best joint service in the frames of international peacekeeping missions and serve as an examples of cooperation. After the speech Ambassador Yuri Vardanyan handed the honorary plaque of Ministry of Defence of RA to the Chief of the Georgian Armed Forces General Staff.

After the march of the army of the First Republic "Araj, Nahatak" the honorary guests of the festive reception ceremoniously cut the cake with the symbol of the coat-of-arms of the Armed Forces of RA which was followed by an entertainment accompanied by Armenian national and military songs.
