Conference devoted to the 300th anniversary of Sayat-Nova in Tbilisi

26 October in Hall named after Ivane Javakhishvili of Tbilisi State University was held a conference devoted to the 300th anniversary of the Sayat-Nova.

                 

On the same morning, a delegation headed by Rector of Yerevan State University Aram Simonyan, who arrived in Georgia to participate in the conference, visited Holy Church of AAC St. Gevorg in Tbilisi. Guests were welcomed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia Hovhannes Manoukian, head of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Bishop the Father Vazgen (Mirzakhanian), representatives of spiritual class, Armenian community and Embassy. Rector of YSU laid a wreath on the grave of Sayat-Nova in the courtyard of the church, and the Bishop the Father Vazgen   held a memorial service.

                 

Before the conference took place short working meeting between Rectors of Tbilisi State University Alexander Kvitashvili and Yerevan State University Aram Simonyan,                                                        attended by the Ambassador of Armenia. Participants gave a brief interview to the media.

At the third, the last few years, similar conference between the two countries, opening speeches were made by YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, TSU Rector Alexander Kvitashvili, chairman of the Writers' Union of Armenia Levon Ananian, chairman of the Writers' Union  of Georgia Makvala Gonashvili, the Dean of faculty of the humanities Darejan Tvaltvaldze and Professor Zaza Aleksidze.

The reports, dedicated to the great Armenian troubadour-poet of the Middle Ages, presented the Dean of Philology Faculty of YSU, Ph.D., professor Artsrun Avakyan, head of the department of literature, Ph.D., Professor Samvel Muradyan, a corresponding member of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor (Associate Professor) Namadi Bartaya, a senior fellow of the Institute of Literature named after Shota Rustaveli Zoya Tkhidaya .
