Meeting of Ambassador Manoukian with the leadership of the newly elected Parliament of Georgia

On November 5, 2012 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Georgia Hovhannes Manoukian paid a visit to  the newly elected Parliament of Georgia, located in Kutaisi, in order to meet with the Speaker and other members of  leading staff of the  legislative body.

Newly appointed Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia David Usupashvili, welcoming the Ambassador of Armenia, noted that after the UN and the EU Ambassadors, this is his third meeting with the head of the diplomatic mission accredited in Georgia. In addition, the Ambassador of Armenia is the first diplomat, with whom the meeting is taking place in the newly constructed building of the parliament in Kutaisi.  

               

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, the Ambassador expressed a conviction, that acquaintance with the leadership of the newly elected Parliament and arrangements that would be achieved in the course of his visit will give new practical impulse not only to  inter-parliamentary cooperation, but will also be important from the perspective of strengthening and deepening of the Armenian-Georgian relations.

The Speaker of Parliament of Georgia and the Ambassador of Armenia, giving a high evaluation to the current level Armenian-Georgian ties in the field of security, as well as in the areas of economy, energy, the scope of transit trade, cultural and other fields, were unanimous in their view about the deepening of further cooperation.

              

Interlocutors also discussed the issues concerning to the Armenian community in Georgia and the importance of legal and actual possibility of free expression and discussion of these issues.

Ambassador Manoukian handed to Usupashvili Armenian National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan’s congratulatory message and his invitation to Armenia, which was kindly accepted by the head of the highest legislative body of Georgia.

Upon meeting with the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Manana Kobakhidze, Ambassador Manoukian addressed the topic of processes of expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation. Parties, in particular, stressed the importance of cooperation of parliamentary friendship groups, exchange of experience in the field of lawmaking and cooperation in the international platform.

The same day, Hovhannes Manoukian also met with Georgian Parliament Vice-Speakers Zurab Abashidze, Murman Dumbadze, and Zviad Dzidziguri as well as with Tedo Japaridze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs.
