Commemorative evening in honour of Frunze Mkrtchyan in Tbilisi

On March 11, in Tbilisi a commemorative evening was held in honour of the famous Armenian movie actor of the Soviet era Frunze Mkrtchyan entitled “Frunzik Mkrtchyan, 20 Years Later”. The evening was organized in the exhibition hall of the National Library of the Parliament of Georgia by the initiative of the Embassy of RA to Georgia, in association with “The Caucasus House” cultural centre and with assistance of the National Library of the Parliament of Georgia.    

The famous comic actor of movie and theatre was loved and appreciated not only in Armenia but also in many countries of the world and particularly in Georgia. And this is why, 20 years after his death in Tbilisi with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Hovhannes Manoukian’s immediate efforts a commemorative evening was organized in actor’s honour.       

Ambassador Hovhannes Manoukian made an opening speech at the event. He particularly mentioned: “It is already 20 years as Frunze Mkrtchyan left us. But thanks to his talent and brilliant roles played he will always remain in our hearts. Due to his talent, Frunze together with Vakhtang Kikabidze demonstrated an etalon of friendship and amity between Armenians and Georgians in film “Mimino”. In that aspect, Frunze can be fully considered as the cultural, even more, people’s ambassador of Armenia in Georgia”.

State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Paata Zakareishvili greeted the guests of the evening and spoke of the Armenian-Georgian age-long friendship and expressed his respect and love for Frunze Mkrtchyan and his creative work.   

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Georgia Yermukhamet Yertysbayev made an appreciative speech at the event: “When the person is a genial artist, he does not have any nationality. According to the actor’s words, everything is transient in this life, only the art is forever”.

The guests of the evening had the opportunity to watch the video records with greetings of “Mimino” film director Giorgi Danelia, “Mimino” and “Kin-dza-dza” films scriptwriter Revaz Gabriadze, and Frunze’s co-actor in the film “Mimino” Vakhtang Kikabidze.

Video passages from famous films “Mimino”, “The soldier and the elephant”, and “Kidnapping, Caucasian style (Russian: Кавказская пленница)” were shown at the event.

Frunze Mkrtchyan’s unique photo series and the actor’s graphical works were exhibited at the evening (for the first time in Georgia).   

In the concert part of the event “Jeyran” dance ensemble of “Hayartun” cultural Centre performed. Tbilisi State University’s vocal ensemble, the winner of the “Voice of Armenia” Anna Khanchalyan, Georgian singer Davit Pataridze, Tbilisi Armenian soloists Nina Karapetyan, Emma Poghosyan and Hovhannes Shahnazaryan also performed at the event.

At the end of the evening Janna Davtyan - the director of the “doll cultural house” named after Gari Davtyan, shared her memories of Frunze Mkrtchyanand with the audience and  brought up to the stage a doll with Frunze’s face.   

State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Paata Zakareishvili, deputies of the Parliament of Georgia,  foreign ambassadors accredited in Georgia and representatives of the international organizations, the diplomatic staff of the embassy of RA to Georgia, Georgian public and cultural figures and representatives of the Armenian community were present at the commemorative evening.
