16 March, 2014

On March 15 and 16 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Georgia Hovhannes Manoukian paid a working visit to Autonomous Republic of Ajara.

The first meeting was with the mayor’s designate Giorgi Ermakov who introduced prospects and directions of development of Batumi emphasizing the traditional role of the Batumi-Armenians in the developing process of the city. In his turn, Ambassador Manoukian spoke of the possible investments of Armenian businessmen in Batumi and the importance of engagement of Armenian local authorities in organizational works during visits of our compatriots to the Autonomous Republic of Ajara in the upcoming touristic period.

The next meeting of Ambassador Manoukian was with the representatives of the Armenian community in Barekamutyun House of Batumi.  During the meeting the participants discussed problems concerning the community issues, solutions to those problems, and the developing prospects of the community life. Ambassador Manoukian mentioned the importance of cultural, educational and sport activities in the community life and gave departmental awards of the Ministries of Diaspora, Culture, Education and Science to a number of community activists.  Participants and veterans of World War II were also awarded with departmental awards of the Ministry of Defense of RA. Ambassador Manoukian personally visited those veterans who were not present at the meeting because of health problems and passed them those awards.

On the second day of the meeting, a charity event was held in St. Christ Savior Church of Batumi. Gifts were given to Armenian indigent families living in Batumi on behalf of the Embassy of RA to Georgia.
