Ambassador Vardanyan's Working Visit to Samtskhe Javakheti

 On December 4 in the frames of a working visit to Akhaltsikhe, Akhalkalak and Ninotsminda districts of Samtskhe Javakhk region, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Georgia Yuri Vardanyan met the governor of Samtskhe Javakhketi region Akaki Machutadze and mayor of Akhaltsikhe Giorgi Kopadze. Issues regarding tourism and Armenian community, as well as prospects for regional development were discussed at the meeting. The Ambassador stressed the importance of the Armenian-Georgian friendship and expressed his willingness for cooperation with local authorities in areas of mutual interest.

Mayor of Akhaltsikhe Giorgi Kopadze presented the improvement works of the city, particularly mentioning the construction of the road leading to St. Grigor Lusavorich church foreseen in 2015.

Accompanied by the governor and the mayor, Ambassador Vardanyan visited Rabat castle and its ethnographic museum, participated in the presentation of the historical booklet about Akhaltsikhe in Georgian and English and met the local intellectuals.

In his speech, the Ambassador said that he highly appreciated the Armenian-Georgian age-long fraternal and good-neighbourly relations and promised to do his utmost to deepen and develop those relations.

In Akhaltsikhe Ambassador Vardanyan also visited St. Grigor Lusavorich Church and had a meeting with the representatives of the Armenian community, got acquainted with their problems and expressed his readiness to support them. He emphasized the importance of the ties between the motherland and the Armenian communities.

During the meeting the Ambassador handed a Diploma of RA Ministry of Diaspora to Eduard Ayvazyan - the coordinator of the Armenian Youth Center in Akhaltsikhe and editor in chief of ''akhaltskha.net'' web site.

Later the delegation left for Akhalkalak where it was met by the heads of the district - Chairman of the District Council Eduard Agasaryan, Chairman of the District Assembly Hamlet Movsisyan and the Deputy of the Georgian Parliament Samvel Petrosyan. At the meeting with the heads of circles from different spheres, the Ambassador's attention was drawn to future projects and works carried out in the region in the last years. Soon afterwards, another meeting was held in an expanded format in the district assembly hall. It was attended by the deputies of the district assembly, heads of villages, local community structures, school directors and other representatives of the community.

In the frames of the visit to Ninotsminda  Ambassador Vardanyan met the chairman of the district council Gagik Gharslyan and majoritarian deputy from Ninotsminda Henzel Mkoyan. The participants of the meeting presented the social and political situation in the region, as well as issues of concern existing in the Armenian community. Accompanied by the district authorities, Ambassador Vardanyan visited Rafael Gharslyan Educational, Cultural and Youth Centre in Ninotsminda and had a meeting with the local Armenian community. In his speech he stressed the importance of cultural, educational and sporting activities in community life and made an appeal to proceed with continuous activities in the mentioned spheres. The Аmbassador also pointed out the role of the Armenian Apostolic Church in community life, as well as the importance of spiritual education and preservation of national identity.

At the end of the visit to Ninotsminda Ambassador paid tribute to innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide by visiting the memorial dedicated to them.
