Ambassador Yuri Vardanyan’s visit to Samtskhe-Javakheti region

 Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia Yuri Vardanyan made a working visit to Samtskhe-Javakheti region, where he held a meeting with the Governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti Akaki Machutadze.

The main topics of the agenda was the incident between Armenian and Georgian young people on the night of April 24 and the steps to be taken for the reduction of it. In this regard, Ambassador Vardanyan expressed his deep concerns to the governor and expressed hope that the culprits will be punished and steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Governor Machutadze assured The Ambassador that he will keep under his direct control the two court cases and regularly will provide information to the Armenian side about developments of those.

During the visit, Ambassador Yuri Vardanyan also visited Akhalkalaki, where he held a meeting with the Member of Parliament of Georgia Samvel Petrosyan, the Chairman of Akhalkalaki’s Regional Assembly Hamlet Movsisyan, Head of the Administration of Akhalkalaki Eduard Aghasaryan and Deputy Head of the Administration of Akhalkalaki Harutyun Hovhannisyan. Wide range of questions concerning the Armenian population in Javakhk was discussed during the meeting.

Ambassador Vardanyan noted the need of consistent steps for activation of community life and the joint projects development. In the context of the incident of April 23, Ambassador Vardanyan presented some details about his meetings and telephone conversations on this regard.

The Ambassador also visited the Holy Cross Armenian Church in Akhalkalaki.
