On May 17, the joint first meeting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and the Foreign Relations Committee of Georgian Parliament took place in Tbilisi. The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan, the Committee members Eduard Aghajanyan and Hripsime Grigoryan, as well as the RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia Ashot Smbatyan took part in the meeting from the Armenian side. The Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee of Georgian Parliament Nikoloz Samkharadze, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee of Georgian Parliament Mariam Lashkhi, and the members of the Foreign Relations Committee of Parliament of Georgia David Matikashvili and Grigol Vashadze took part in the meeting from the Georgian side.

Warmly welcoming the RA NA deputies, the Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee of Georgian Parliament noted that Armenia and Georgia are connected by a great historical and cultural heritage, characterizing that connection as very unique.

Touching upon the inter-parliamentary cooperation, Nikoloz Samkharadze underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and added that the regular meetings between the committees will in its turn bring the desired result for the benefit of our region.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and mentioned the necessity to establish a bilateral strategic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia. It was noted that in the conditions of serious geopolitical changes, the role of Georgia in establishing stability in the region is very important.

The member of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Hripsime Grigoryan stated that the challenges that Armenia and Georgia face are very common, and it is necessary to unite efforts to overcome them.

Nikoloz Samkharadze noted that it is necessary to finish the processes of demarcation and delimitation of Armenia and Georgia, and they should be done in the whole region: Armenia-Azerbaijan, Georgia-Azerbaijan, Armenia-Georgia.

The member of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan also highlighted the issues of delimitation and demarcation, then stated that the future of Armenia and Georgia is together.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to hold the next joint meeting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and the Foreign Relations Committee of Parliament of Georgia in Yerevan.
