01 December, 2025
On December 1, an exhibition titled “Unknown Stories” was held at the Ilia Chavchavadze National Library in Tbilisi, dedicated to the memory of the renowned actors, People’s Artist of Armenia Frunzik Mkrtchyan and People’s Artist of Georgia and Armenia Sofiko Chiaureli. Unique and previously unseen photographs were presented, featuring moments from the film stars’ joint shoots and episodes from their lives.
The authorial exhibition by cultural figure Davit Bezhitashvili was organized with the cooperation of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia, the Deputy Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Culture Committee Eka Chichinadze, and with the support of Georgia’s Ministry of Culture.
Opening the evening, Eka Chichinadze emphasized that the names of these two legendary actors had long surpassed national boundaries, creating a strong bridge not only on stage but also in the hearts of the Armenian and Georgian peoples.
Addressing the attendees, RA Ambassador Ashot Smbatyan expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the exhibition. He expressed hope that the event, through its content, became one of the finest examples of not only the centuries-long friendship between the two peoples but also of beautiful human connections. Highlighting the path of bringing nations together, he stressed the important role of individuals whose legacy is immortalized through the years and centuries.
The Armenian Ambassador spoke about Sofiko Chiaureli’s unique talent and incomparable charm, recalling her exceptional performance particularly in the film “A Slice of Sky”. Portraying the role of an Armenian woman and breaking the stereotypes of the time, Sofiko managed to win the hearts of the Armenian people.
The exhibition’s author shared interesting stories about the two legendary actors. During the event, collage videos of films featuring the actors were also shown. The Tbilisi State Puppet Theater named after G. Mikeladze performed with puppets representing the actors.
The evening was hosted by the renowned TV journalist Nikoloz Tsulukidze.
