The traditional “Vardaton” dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Sayat-Nova was held in Tbilisi

On May 27, 2012 the traditional solemn Vardaton ceremony was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia and the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia and the Tbilisi City Hall.

At the event were participating the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia Hovhannes Manoukian, the Primate of Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, advisor to the President of Georgia Van Bayburtyan, Chairman of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo Zaal Samadashvili, Advisor to the RA Minister of Diaspora Stepan Petrosyan, President of the Union of Writers of Armenia Levon Ananyan, President of the Union of Writers of Georgia Maghvala Gonashvili, President of the Union of Writers of Artsakh Vardan Hakobyan, Embassy employees, representatives of Armenian clergy and several members of Armenian community, as well as other guests from Armenia and Artsakh.

In the concert, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Sayat-Nova, which was included in the list of anniversaries of UNESCO in 2012,  were featured performances by “Sayat-Nova” and “Havasi” Ashug Song Ensemble from Armenia led by the artistic director Tovmas Poghosyan, famous Armenian duduk player Gevorg Dabaghyan, as well as Georgian singers in whose repertory also were songs and poems by Sayat-Nova.

On the same day, the presentation of the Georgian version of the collection of poems called “The breath of Stone” was held at “Hayartun” Cultural Center of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The poems were written by the President of the Union of Writers of Artsakh, Rector of Grigor Narekatsi University, laureate of the Republic of Armenia State Award, doctor of philology, poet Vardan Hakobyan.

The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia Hovhannes Manoukian, the Primate of Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, President of the Union of Writers of Armenia Levon Ananyan, President of the Union of Writers of Georgia Maghvala Gonashvili, as well as Armenian and Georgian writers, public and cultural figures.

The book was published by “Merani” publishing house. The translation was performed by the member of the Union of Writers of Georgia Anahit Bostanjyan and is edited by the president of the Union of Writers of Georgia Maghvala Gonashvili.
