On October 23, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Georgia Hovhannes Manoukian had a working meeting with the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamara Sanikidze.

The aim of the meeting was to get acquainted with the newly appointed Minister, the Georgian educational policy towards non Georgian schools and programmes, as well as discussion of cooperation between the Ministries of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Ambassador Manoukian mentioned that the Armenian-Georgian cooperation in education and science was one of the important directions for bilateral relations and that the cooperation between the relevant government agencies of both countries was at a high level.

In particular, Ambassador Manoukian talked about the quality of manuals in non-Georgian schools, the errors in Armenian materials that needed to be eliminated, the restoration of the Armenian language in Olympiad programme, and involvement of the Armenian language in the list of school exit examinations.

The Ambassador and the Minister discussed issues related to infrastructure of Armenian schools in Georgia and urgent restoration of those schools that were in inconsolable state.

During the conversation with the minister, Hovhannes Manoukian also discussed the issue of training and qualification of the personnel for the Armenian-language schools. He also talked about the possibility of teaching Armenian history at schools.

Tamara Sanikidze agreed that all the mentioned questions and issues were important and relevant; she made notes in the agenda of questions about schools and assured that they would soon meet to discuss those topics again.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Manoukian suggested that meetings and communication between the leaders of the two departments were more active. In response to this, the Minister expressed her willingness to invite her Armenian colleague to Georgia after the presidential elections in Georgia.
