Creative Evening in Tbilisi Dedicated to Sayat-Nova’s 300th Anniversary

 On November 5, an evening dedicated to incomparable poet Sayat-Nova’s 300th anniversary was held in the exhibition hall of National Library of the Parliament of Georgia. 

The event was organized by the Embassy of RA to Georgia in association with “The Caucasus House” cultural centre.

Vahagn Afyan, the Deputy Ambassador of RA to Georgia, the Diplomat and the Second Secretary, made an opening speech in the evening. He particularly mentioned:

“It is quite indicative that we are again glorifying the inimitable poet of our nation right here in Tbilisi, whose name, as you know, was included in the world list of birthday anniversaries of UNESCO last year together with 1650th birthday anniversary of Mesrop Mashtots, 500th birthday anniversary of Armenian typography and 1400th  birthday anniversary of Anania Shirakatsi ”.


The translator of Sayat-Nova’s works, Tbilisi Armenian famous writer Givi Shahnazari,  the well-known Armenologist, translator Zezva Medulashvili, and the former senior editor of Public Television of Georgia Emin Mahmudov also made a speech at the event. In their speech they touched upon creative skills of triglot and four lingual poet and troubadour honoured as invincible musician in literature of regional nations. The historian Enoq Tadevosyan presented noteworthy facts on Sayat Nova’s biography. Thanks to the video connection with Armenia the participants of the event had the chance to communicate with honoured artist of RA Tovmas Poghosyan, the art director of “Sayat-Nova” ensemble.

 In the concert part of the event, Svetlana Yeritsyan, the art director of “Jeyran” dance ensemble of “Hayartun” cultural Centre and her group performed. The string quartet of young Georgian performers, as well as singers Esai Abovyan, Nadya Zakharyan, Emma and Anna Poghosyan - winners in international competitions - performed. Thematic paintings of painter Alla Antonyan were exhibited during the evening.  Liza Torosyan and orientalist Kerim Ankosi recited in the event. 

Councillor of the president of Georgia, the editor of “Georgia” newspaper Van Bayburthyan, deputies of the parliament, Armenian religious representatives of Armenian Diocese of Georgia, representatives of the Armenian, Jewish, Kurdish, German, Latvian, Estonian, and other communities in Tbilisi, as well as Georgian intellectuals and public personalities were present at the event. 

   The event was widely elucidated by Georgian mass media.
