Ambassador Manoukian participated in the opening ceremony of Khachkar (cross-stone) in Ninotsminda, commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide

23 April, 2014

On April 23 a liturgy commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide was held in St. Sarkis Church of Ninotsminda of Samtskhe-Javakheti region. Later, the opening ceremony of a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide was held in the courtyard of the cultural centre of Ninotsminda. The consecration ceremony of the memorial was conducted by the Primate of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, the Vicar General of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Tsalka, Supreme Archimandrite Babken Salbiyan and the clergy of the Diocese. After the consecration of the memorial, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of RA to Georgia Hovhannes Manoukian together with entrepreneur and benefactor Armen Karslyan inaugurated the memorial.

Ambassador Manoukian addressed the audience with a speech. He particularly mentioned: “Installation of a memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide in Ninotsminda is indeed a historical event”.

Hovhannes Manoukian stated that the recent terroristic acts in Syrian Kesap city and the tragic consequences of those acts served as an additional confirmation of the fact that the demand of recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide had an urgent and imperative significance.

“The Rehabilitation of justice is an idea based on moral values. Justice and political expediency must not contradict each other, even more; they must complement each other, as justice must be the fundamental characteristic of a developed and civilized country. Armed with this ideology, we appeal to all countries of the world to join their voices to our demand for recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and to condemn Turkey’s policy of denying the Armenian Genocide, as it is against the international law and justice ", - said the Ambassador of RA.
Primate of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Akhalkalaki and Kumurdo Diocese Metropolitan Nikoloz, the deputies of the Parliament of Georgia, representatives of the local authorities, cultural and public figures also made speeches at the ceremony.

Spiritual representatives of Armenian and Georgian churches, representatives of local authorities, members of the National Assembly of RA and Parliament of Georgia, entrepreneurs, guests from Armenia, a delegation from Tbilisi and representatives of Armenian community of Javakheti were present at the consecration ceremony.
