In Tbilisi, the traditional Vardaton Festival was celebrated

31 May, 2026

In Tbilisi, the traditional Vardaton Festival was celebrated in honor of the memory of Sayat-Nova, the pioneer of song and music.

According to tradition, following a memorial service, participants laid flowers at the Sayat-Nova memorial stone located in the courtyard of St. George's Cathedral in Tbilisi. The ceremony was followed by a festive open-air concert in Gorgasali Square.

Welcome speeches were delivered by M. Arakelova, President of the Union of Armenians in Georgia; Tinatin Nibloshvili, Vice Chairperson of the Tbilisi City Assembly (Sakrebulo); Vladimir Poghosyan, Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia; Giorgi Volski, First Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia; Lia Gigauri, Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality of Georgia; and Magvala Gonashvili, Co-Chair of the Georgian Writers' Union.

Conveying the message of the Armenian Ambassador, V. Poghosyan referred to the centuries-old and inseparable friendship between the Armenian and Georgian peoples, emphasizing the special role and place of Sayat-Nova, whose image, he noted, embodies the spirit of Tbilisi—a city that stands at the crossroads of cultures.

The event featured musical and dance performances by choirs and dance ensembles from Armenia and various regions of Georgia, as well as solo performances of Armenian folk and bardic songs by Vardan Badalyan and Arpi.
