Reception dedicated to the 35th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia

Official Reception and concert dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia were held at the renowned Garden Hall in Tbilisi.

Congratulatory remarks were delivered by Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia Ashot Smbatyan and Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili.

In his remarks, Ambassador Smbatyan emphasized that independence represents the highest value of the Armenian people and serves as a cornerstone of statehood, sovereignty, and a free and democratic future. He noted that independence is not only a historic achievement, but also an ongoing responsibility to strengthen the state, ensure peace and security, and build a developed and prosperous Armenia.

The Ambassador underscored that Armenia is firmly advancing its peace agenda, guided by the conviction that the establishment of an era of peace in the region will open new opportunities for sustainable development, economic cooperation, and the well-being of peoples. In this context, Armenia attaches great importance to the constructive role of friendly Georgia and to the strategic partnership between the two countries as an important factor in promoting peace, stability, and mutual trust in the South Caucasus.

Ambassador Smbatyan also highlighted the special bonds between Armenia and Georgia, noting that the two countries and their peoples are united by centuries-old friendship and brotherhood, shared historical and cultural heritage, and strong people-to-people ties.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili noted that the values of independence, sovereignty, and national dignity hold particular significance for the two neighboring and brotherly peoples. He stressed that, in today’s complex world, marked by numerous challenges, both countries are doing their utmost to safeguard their right to independently determine their future and to build peaceful and prosperous societies in accordance with their aspirations.

Shalva Papuashvili further emphasized that Georgia and Armenia are bound by centuries of shared history, rich cultural ties, warm people-to-people relations, and mutual respect.

The event was attended by First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Giorgi Volski, members of the Parliament and City Council, members of the government, the Prosecutor General, and other high-ranking Georgian officials, as well as ambassadors accredited to Georgia, heads of international organizations, and representatives of Georgia’s public, business, and cultural communities. Representatives of the Armenian community in Georgia were also present.

The concert featured performances by qanun player and Honored Educator of the Republic of Armenia Tsovinar Hovhannisyan, who was specially invited from Armenia, together with her students Kristine Yengoyan, Milena Mkrtumyan, and Mary Musinyan.

As part of the reception, video presentations showcasing Armenia’s tourism and cultural attractions were also presented.
