Exhibition entitled “Yervand Kochar: A Multidimensional Genius” in Tbilisi

08 October, 2026
Within the framework of the Days of Armenian Culture in Georgia, an exhibition entitled “Yervand Kochar: A Multidimensional Genius” opened at the Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery in Tbilisi under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia and the Embassy of Armenia in Georgia. The exhibition will run until November 8.
At the heart of the exhibition are Yervand Kochar’s innovative spatial art, contemporary technological solutions, installations and other media, highlighting the diversity and innovative nature of the renowned artist’s creative legacy. The exhibition also features sculptures by contemporary artist Ashot Marabyan, inspired by Kochar’s works.
The opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks by Alfred Kocharyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia; Natia Shamatava, Deputy Minister of Culture of Georgia; Davit Lordkipanidze, Director of the Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery of Georgia; and Karine Kochar, Director of the Yervand Kochar House-Museum.
Addressing those present, Ambassador of Armenia to Georgia Ashot Smbatyan highlighted Kochar’s close ties with prominent representatives of Georgian art, including Lado Gudiashvili and Elene Akhvlediani, describing these relationships as a beautiful example of the natural dialogue between Armenian and Georgian cultures. He also emphasized the importance of unveiling a memorial plaque dedicated to Yervand Kochar in Tbilisi last year, with the support of the Tbilisi City Assembly (Sakrebulo), and described the current exhibition as the artist’s symbolic return to his native city.
Coinciding with the exhibition’s opening, a presentation was held for the newly published trilingual (Armenian, Georgian and English) illustrated book-catalogue, “Yervand Kochar: A Multidimensional Genius,” authored by Karine Kochar.
